The Cooper River Bridge Run--the best race on the planet--happens this weekend, and King Street is right in the middle of it all. On Wednesday evening, the Bridge Run's Sponsor Cruise will take place aboard SpiritLine Cruises' beautiful Spirit of Carolina, where each guest will receive a special VIP Passport to King Street. VIP Passports suggest the best shopping, dining and lodging on the Charleston peninsula, with special offers and other VIP services.
Blue Bicycle Books will host their Bridge Run Show on Thursday at 7:30 PM in the courtyard at 418 King. Owner and local writer Jonathan Sanchez will read, and refreshments will be served at this don't-miss annual event.
On Friday the "not just another pasta dinner" Taste of the Bridge Run will be held on both sides of the Bridge starting at 5:00 PM. Look for cuisine by Halls Chophouse, Butcher and Bee, Jim 'n Nicks, Verde, Virginia's, Cupcake and many other local restaurants. Last year The Taste created a buzz in racing circles nationwide.
Saturday is race day, and King Street will welcome racers with a musical score. Look for Rev. Marv Ward on the sidewalk in front of Midtown Bar & Grill on Upper King. Halls Chophouse will be the spot to hear Luckyman Beall, new band Braddock Avenue will play in front of Boone's Bar, and Jim 'n Nicks will feature Juke Joint Johnny & Drew Baldwin.
For many the Bridge Run is a cultural event, with groups gathering to celebrate the race and their favorite runners. Bloody Marys are the official beverage, and you can find fantastic versions at all the above, plus Mellow Mushroom, Leaf Cafe + Bar, Juanita Greenberg's, Monza, Closed for Business, O-Ku, the Macintosh and Fish.
